Details: Diesel Engine Mechanic (Heavy Duty Mechanic)We are seeking highly adaptive and skilled professionals to assume the role of Heavy Duty Mechanic. The roleHeavy Duty Mechanics perform major and minor repairs, overhauls and servicing Locomotive engines, vehicle attachments and material handling equipment. Critical performance areas include:• Inspecting, servicing and maintaining locomotives, vehicles and equipment in accordance with federal and company regulations, including changing oil or repairing, replacing, cleaning and adjusting parts;• Diagnosing diesel engine malfunctions and making required repairs;• Assembling and starting engines;• Using electric and oxy-acetylene welding equipment, lubrication equipment and other vehicle repair tools and equipment, and operating said tools and machinery in a safe and effective manner;• Repairing various work equipment machinery;• Preparing inspection, maintenance, and work reports, and recording details on prescribed forms in accordance with established procedures;• Providing hi-rail servicing and installations. The work locationMemphis, TN The ideal candidate profile• Ability to work autonomously, adapt to different situations and manage stress• Demonstration of good team skills and ability to maintain positive interactions with others• Good verbal, reading comprehension and writing skills• Ability to analyze a situation, troubleshoot and make decisions effectively• Dedication to meeting established standards of quality and safety• Possession of basic computer skillsThe requirements• High school diploma or equivalent General Education Diploma (GED)• Valid driver's and/or commercial driver's license for the class and type of equipment operated• Good hand-eye coordination• Ability to lift/carry up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 100 pounds• Distant visual acuity of at least 20/40 in each eye with or without glasses• An average hearing threshold (in the better ear) of 40 decibels or less at 500 HZ, 1000HZ and 2000 HZ, aided or unaided• Basic technical knowledge of diesel mechanics• Flexibility to travel occasionally The assets• Experience in the automotive repair trade • Experience troubleshooting hydraulic and electronic systems • Welding skillsCN is an employment equity employer, and we encourage all qualified candidates to apply.We thank all applicants for their interest; however, only candidates under consideration will be contacted.
